By now, you should have assigned and graded several informal assessments. How have you been using the results of these assessments to improve how you teach and what students learn? What strategies has your CT suggested for providing students with guidance before they do the assignment to improve their performance? What about after the assignment?
Yes, I have assigned several informal assessments to see if the students are learning. Usually I assign these during class and I will allow them to work in groups to complete them. I then rotate around each group and make sure that they stay on task and that they know what they're doing. Also, I usually answer their questions and misconceptions during that time.
If there's a pattern of misconceptions or confusions among students, I usually stop and explain to the whole class the correct way of doing whatever they're supposed to be doing. I also usually make sure to come back to those confusing points at the beginning of the next class and check with students to make sure that everyone is understanding the concept.
My CT has not really provided me with many strategies to improve students' performance. He has mentioned though that I should give the students plenty of time to excercise certain difficult concepts (i.e. completing Punnett squares on the board etc.)
